January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) actively opposes human trafficking through education, advocacy, and support for survivors, viewing it as an injustice rooted in systemic issues like sexism and poverty.

We can use January to learn ways our congregation, and those in our community and beyond, can begin to put an end to human trafficking through various ELCA programs and partner organizations and initiatives. A wealth of information and resources are available at the links below!

The ELCA also encourages its members to observe National Human Trafficking Awareness Day (January 11) and promotes awareness campaigns using social media with hashtags like #EndHumanTrafficking. We will be offering special prayers in worship on January 12th. Please consider involving your neighbors to learn, raise awareness, and answer the call to action in faithful ways across all of this month.

Support our local veterans

Community Lutheran is partnering with the VA Homeless Coordinator to collect much needed supplies for veterans experiencing homelessness. We are requesting new items only, not gently worn or previously used items.

Please bring donations between Jan. 1 and Feb. 1 and place them in the donation box located in the narthex.

Needed items include:

  • Hand warmers
  • Gloves
  • Quilts
  • Tents
  • Sleeping bags
  • Winter hats
  • Body wipes
  • Toiletry kits
  • First aid kits

Together, we can provide warmth, dignity, and hope to those who have given so much in service to our country.
